stickers in shitty places

stickers in shitty places is a tiny zine that consists of seven snapshot photographs that I took in the restrooms of my university. The snapshots show queer / leftist stickers.

The stickers were found on the walls and on the toilet cabins. The image that was used to create the zine cover was found on the internet.

The "Nazis den Vogel zeigen" sticker (Page 4) is referencing a german expression that is used to describe a gesture similar to tapping your head in order to express that you think something or someone is 'crazy'.

Personal comment regarding the stickers and the place that I found them in:

My experiences in this university have not been all sunshine and roses, I experienced several cases of transphobia and general lack of respect towards my identity. When I found those stickers I was quite surprised - most of them are to be found in a restroom that is actually full of nice queer/leftist stickers! It is also the only gender neutral restroom in the entire building. From my understanding it was not meant to be a gender neutral restroom at first but a bunch of students just hijacked it, which is great.

It feels like a little queer island located right in the middle of an environment that is rather hostile towards queerness / queer people.

Seeing little things like that really help me to not feel alone and invalidated in this place, however simply putting up stickers is not enough to make the place less, well, shitty. Sigh. It is a good first step though.
